There is a shot in Overland, from high above and directly down, of an Oklahoma prairie.  A speck of a woman enters from the left; she carries an eagle on her fist.  Your eye flicks to instant movement as a jackrabbit darts from hiding and out of the frame.  The eagle takes flight.  The shot is beautiful, mesmerizing, painterly, but your emotional response to the chase is also informed by the journey the film has carried you along as you’ve come to love Myles, the golden eagle in question, and the woman who is attempting to teach him the skills he’ll need to survive in the wild.  Moments like these, which blend the visually stunning and the narratively compelling, abound within the somehow pensive yet propulsive 105 minutes of the film.  Part nature documentary and part deep-dive into the lives of three very different people who all see their passion for falconry threatened by the drumbeat of progress, Overland pulls off a neat trick: it deploys the very technology that opposes its subjects to domesticate their interior wilderness and make it habitable to the viewer.  Also, it’s gorgeous.

“If you’re looking for a film that is appropriate for all age levels and has a unique and interesting storyline, I recommend “Overland.”  It traverses 4 continents and introduces us to Falconry.  The viewers meet 3 Falconers who train their birds and see how they build a bond of trust with them.  You’ll be amazed at how the birds capture their prey, and then faithfully return to their owners. Not only do we witness the bird’s interacting with their trainers, but we also gain insights into their personal lives and their respective motivations.  In addition to this unique and interesting storyline, the film touches ones senses with visually beautiful scenery and inspiring music, leaving one feeling uplifted and curious to learn more about this ancient, and dying avocation.”

What an extraordinary piece of work!  The photography is sublime. Just when you think it could not be more beautiful...another scene appears and takes your breath away.  Each of the falconers were so interesting, you showed their depth and authenticity..and wonder. I even felt as though I got to know the birds with your fantastic close ups into their eyes. And OH...the music soared, it was meditative, enhancing each scene.
